A side-scrolling brawler, Young Thor is instantly accessible, but with enough depth to avoid making the experience too repetitive. While it’s tempting to simply mash the Square button, developer Frima has done a good job of scaling the experience, introducing new enemies that demand new strategies. My own play style evolved as I learned to add more jumps and dodges while chaining Thor’s lightning magic into combat.

You won’t need to grind to beat Young Thor, but you might find yourself revisiting earlier stages for the fun of it — and to find some of the well-hidden treasures, which grant powers like double jumping, health and magic regeneration.

Parents Given Advice by Sony about PSN

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has just launched a new website catered to parents looking for tips and tutorials on safe gaming for younger players. PS-PlaySafeOnline.com includes explanations of the PS3′s parental control settings function, security features for registered PSN Online IDs, and advice on what to do when faced with online jerks.

The entire site is wrapped around a strange (and way too cheery) Egg-man character, who seems to waver been non-threatening and subversively creepy. Our only real gripe? There is no glossary term for PlayStation Home’s “Quincying” phenomenon. Everyone must be warned.

PSP Comics Get DVD Feature: Audio Commentary

According to a tweet by comic publisher IDW, we won’t just read comics on the PSP, we’ll hear them as well. At least we’ll hear people talking about them. “Editing more audio tracks from @Templesmith (Ben Templesmith) for Wormwood on the PSP,” one tweet noted. A subsequent message clarified the nature of the audio: “

Recording more @Templesmith commentaries tonight.”

The official PlayStation Digital Comics Twitter account (yes, we’re sourcing another tweet) pointed out the note, saying “I’m so pleased IDW are taking advantage of the optional audio sound track(s) available to publishers.” We agree — it’s nice to know that

the PSP Digital Comics service will add something to the medium beyond a different interface.

The PSP Digital Comics store will launch in several countries today. According to a PSNComics tweet, the US will receive access at noon Pacific time (3PM EST). The European PlayStation Blog states the comics store will open at 5PM GMT in the UK, ~~Ireland~~ (technical issue), Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

The system will supposedly launch with hundreds of comics from Marvel, IDW, Titan, iVerse and 2000AD. Everything that’s available should be listed on playstationcomics.com after launch. We’re definitely looking forward to taking the service for a test drive with that “free comics” button.

My students hate creating timelines but maybe this will be the answer to that problem. I only wish that the HISTORY was a little more far reaching, in depth and comprehensive.

What does 15 years of PlayStation look like? Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has opened a brand new site celebrating the legacy of the PlayStation platform, featuring a timeline of Sony’s major gaming hardware releases, beginning with the launch of the original Japanese PlayStation on December 3rd, 1994. Sony’s handheld holds a majority of those dotted events, with every version of the PSP (from the 1000 to the Go) represented.

The “15″ year logo is a fun potpourri of various accessories released throughout the brand’s history. In addition to SingStar microphones and Buzz! controllers, you can see Sony playing homage to UMD, PocketStation and rubber ducks — stars of the initial tech demos for both PS2 and PS3.

Lucky Brits. Not only do they get to be in closer geographic proximity to the dreamy David Tennant than we do, they’re also extended some amazing post-Thanksgiving deals on typically pricey gaming equipment. Electronics retailer HMV is currently running two such offers in the UK — the company has dropped the price of the PSP Go to £148.99, down significantly from the handheld’s MSRP of £224.99. In addition, it’s reduced the cost for DJ Hero, normally £107.99, down to just £69.99.

We’re not sure how long these prices will stay this low, so if you live in the United Kingdom and have any interest in turntabling or digital distribution revolutions, we suggest you get while the getting is good.

So glad thisservice has started. The autoflow feature is one step above the iphone and ipod Touch version of the same comics. The widescreen display also seems to add a little bit more.

Available for lucky users in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are two sampler comics, featuring the service’s highly touted Autoflow feature — which mimics the way your eyes read a page.
